Are coastal communities able to pay for the protection of fish resources impacted by climate change?

2020

Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine inhabitants’ motivation and their willingness to pay to mitigate the impact of climate change on fish resources. Willingness to pay was tested empirically using survey data from 333 inhabitants of Sciacca, a fishing community in Sicily, Italy, which has the island’s second largest fishing fleet. People’s attitudes towards climate change, their degree of involvement in the issue, and their concerns about this phenomenon’s potential impact on the marine environment are the key factors affecting their willingness to pay. It was further found that respondents are willing to pay an average of €6.81 per month to support mitigation policies in the f…

Watch This! The Influence of Recommender Systems and Social Factors on the Content Choices of Streaming Video on Demand Consumers

2021

Streaming Video-on-demand (SVOD) services are getting increasingly popular. Current research, however, lacks knowledge about consumers’ content decision processes and their respective influencing factors. Thus, the work reported on in this paper explores socio-technical interrelations of factors impacting content choices in SVOD, examining the social factors WOM, eWOM and peer mediation, as well as the technological influence of recommender systems. A research model based on the Theory of Reasoned Action and the Technology Acceptance Model was created and tested by an n = 186 study sample. Results show that the quality of a recommender system and not the social mapping functionality is the …

Toward a Unified Model of Information Security Policy Compliance

2018

Information systems security (ISS) behavioral research has produced different models to explain security policy compliance. This paper (1) reviews 11 theories that have served the majority of previous information security behavior models, (2) empirically compares these theories (Study 1), (3) proposes a unified model, called the unified model of information security policy compliance (UMISPC), which integrates elements across these extant theories, and (4) empirically tests the UMISPC in a new study (Study 2), which provided preliminary empirical support for the model. The 11 theories reviewed are (1) the theory of reasoned action, (2) neutralization techniques, (3) the health belief model,…

2018

The sharing economy has witnessed a significant growth in recent years, enhanced by the development of online platforms. In particular, Airbnb has witnessed a significant worldwide year-on-year growth. The impact of social media and offline influences on consumer behaviour. An analysis of the low-cost airline industry

2016

This study analyses the impact of social media as well as offline environments upon tourist online purchase and recommendation behaviour of low-cost airline services. Drawing on the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), this research considers the effect of offline social influences (interpersonal and external influences) and analyses online Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) information exchanges as a driver of customer attitude towards online purchases. We propose that these factors improve online repurchase intentions and positive word-of-mouth communication (WOM and e-WOM) in low-cost settings. Using structural equation modelling, the conceptual model is tested with a sample of 441 Spanish Internet …

Generation Y Travelers’ Intentions to Book Airbnb Accommodation: An Abstract

2017

Sharing economy is affecting the global economy with increasing scale, as customers can exchange commodities in an organized way under the help of an enormous number of online platforms (Balck and Cracau 2015). In the context of holiday accommodation, Airbnb’ s growth has been stunning as now it has more available rooms than hotel giants like Marriott and Hilton (Weed 2015). In fact, research has highlighted Airbnb’s potential to disrupt the traditional accommodation sector (Guttentag 2013). Given the importance of Airbnb, it is crucial to examine which factors affect intentions to book an accommodation on Airbnb. This study proposes an integrative model based on the theory of reasoned acti…

Employees’ adherence to information security policies: An exploratory field study

2014

The key threat to information security comes from employees who do not comply with information security policies. We developed a new multi-theory based model that explained employees' adherence to security policies. The paradigm combines elements from the Protection Motivation Theory, the Theory of Reasoned Action, and the Cognitive Evaluation Theory. We validated the model by using a sample of 669 responses from four corporations in Finland. The SEM-based results showed that perceived severity of potential information security threats, employees' belief as to whether they can apply and adhere to information security policies, perceived vulnerability to potential security threats, employees…
